Termite Control

Take control of your property before the termites do.

Suspect you have a termite problem?

No one ever wants to discover that their property has termites. It’s a homeowner’s and business owner’s nightmare! Termites are a reality, though, and an informed owner is far better off than one who ignores the problem. To protect your home or business from termites, you need to learn about the behavior of these pests, take steps for prevention, and find effective treatment options should an infestation occur.

Subterranean Termite

Out of all the termite species, subterranean termites do the most damage worldwide. They can destroy your furniture and in serious case, your building structure and integrity. They typically live underground in dark, moist, hidden environments but will create and live in carton nests aboveground.

Drywood Termite

Drywood termites live and forage in dry wood. They enter structures through swarming from infested trees, stored wood or other structures near your home. They are less dependent on moisture compared to Subterranean termites.

How to differentiate Subterranean Termite vs Drywood Termite?

Mud tubes created by Subterranean Termites

Subterranean termites will create mud tubes made of small pieces of soil and wood. It helps protect termites from predators and dry environments while traveling between a food source and the nest. Think of MRT tunnels in Singapore that we use for our daily commute.

Presence of mud tube most likely indicate there might be Subterranean Termites around. Our HEYMONSTER termite inspector will be able to advise if there are any presence of termites and if they are active or inactive during the inspection.

Fecal pellets (droppings) discarded by Drywood Termites

Presence of mound of tiny elongated fecal pellets is a telltale sign of a drywood termite infestation.

Drywood termites eject pellets through a small “kick-out hole” in the external surface of wood from the internal termite galleries.

These pellets often are found in small piles below infested wood. Because drywood termite pellets are a warning sign of termite activity, do not clean up drywood termite pellets until after our HEYMONSTER termite inspector has confirmed the identification.

So, in a nutshell, should you spot the mud tubes, it is likely a Subterranean Termite infestation but if you spot mounds of tiny elongated fecal pellets around, then likelihood it is a Drywood Termite infestation. Regardless the infestation, we can help. Call us and we will be able to advise you the best course of action.

Our treatment methods.

Above Ground (AG) Baiting System

For subterranean termites in houses and buildings, we will install Xterm® AG baiting system to lure the termites into the bait, after which the termites will travel back to their nest to share the bait with their nest mates, resulting in the elimination of the colony.

This is most suitable for spot treatment and termites found inside your house or a building.

In Ground (IG) Baiting System

Subterranean termites active in the soil around your property can be intercepted by Xterm® IG baiting system and feed, then travel back to their nest and share the bait with their nestmates, after which the colony will be exterminated.

The purpose is to create a barrier of perimeter protection around your property, where the IG baiting system will be used as a monitoring tool and treatment for termites.

HEYMONSTER Pest Control is an authorized and certified Xterm® Termite Baiting System installer.

Concept

Both AG and IG termite baiting systems capitalize on the natural behaviour of termites. As social insects, termites share their food in a process known as trophallaxis. This trait allows slow acting toxicants to be transferred through the colony.

How does it work?

Our AG and IG bait systems contain a bait matrix specially designed to attract termites. The slow acting toxicants are then taken back to the nest and spread throughout the colony before taking effect. This allows the effect to reach even the Queen and the King, targeting the heart of the termite colony.

Environmentally friendly

We are using a product of Sumitomo Chemical called Xterm® Baiting System, it is uniquely designed to be safe for use in your home, around children and pet. Have a peace of mind and protect your home with confidence.

Questions? You’re covered.

Termites are small insects that are usually less than a half-inch in length. These insects live in colonies with their own hierarchies. Termite colonies can vary in size, including just two termites — a king and queen — to a few hundred individuals. However, mature termite colonies can contain 60,000 to 1 million termites, depending on the type of termite species. These large colonies can quickly cause damage to wooden structures.

One of the first signs of termites can be mud tubes. Subterranean termites will build mud tubes to protect themselves from the sun and air as they find a food source. You may see these tubes that are about the width of a pencil around the foundation of your home. Another first sign is termite swarmers inside the house. If you do notice these signs, contact us immediately.

Termites eat wood for its cellulose, the most plentiful organic compound found in nature. It is the main building block of plants and found in many materials humans use every day. Termites feed on many of these materials to get the cellulose they need: plants, plant byproducts, cotton fibers (your t-shirt, for example), paper products and, of course, wood.

While termites are drawn to wood, there are other factors that may lead to a termite infestation too. Moisture around your home, cracks in and around the foundation of your house, and wood in direct contact with your house can all leave your home vulnerable to termite infestations.

You want to do everything you can to prevent attracting termites to your home in the first place. Some things you can do include minimizing wood to ground contact, clearing plants and foliage from the immediate area around your home, managing moisture issues, sealing up gaps in your home, and scheduling regular pest inspections with HEYMONSTER.

Because termites breed rapidly, it can be difficult to completely get rid of termites. Our HEYMONSTER termite inspector is trained to find the routes they may have taken to expand into other areas of your home to more effectively control your termite problem and help stop them from causing extensive damage.

Depending on the size of your infestation, the type of termites (subterranean or drywood etc.) in or around your home, and various other factors, the best treatment for termites will vary. Our HEYMONSTER termite inspector can evaluate the problem during our initial inspection and determine an appropriate treatment to help remedy the situation effectively and efficiently.
